Now that all of the votes have been counted and the results are final I wanted to send out a message to y’all.
First, I am so honored that Ward 2 elected me to serve for the next four years. I am glad to be able to continue my work for the community in this new role.
I wanted to take this chance to thank folks, too. First, to everyone who came out to vote or voted by mail, you made the day possible. Regardless of who you selected in the ballot box, your faith in our Democracy is what keeps it going.
I also want to thank the other candidates. Derek and Toni both ran great races, which pushed us all to do better for the community.
I also want to thank all of the previous Mayors and Council members from whom I learned over the years, watching meetings and working on issues: Mayors Benitez and Miles, Councilmembers Carter, Woodall, Chesek, Stotlzfus, Shah, Cecil, Knedler, Tarlau, Loh, Bolin, Updike, and Thompson come to mind, plus, though I never saw them in action, Mayor Sissine and Councilmembers Kidd, Niemann, and Briones, whom I have gotten to know as well.
I also am very thankful to my family, Emma, Zeke, and Zelda for their support (and the support they will give me over the next four years).
Lastly, just because the election is over, that doesn’t mean I still don’t want to be thinking about all of Ward 2’s needs. So if I missed you or you have something new on your mind, please let me know.
Thanks,
Councilmember-Elect Joseph Jakuta (Ward 2)
